MMA fighter Jarrod Wyatt allegedly ripped out training partner Taylor Powell's heart in murder case

A California judge upheld charges of murder against a mixed martial arts fighter on Friday after the man allegedly cut the victim's heart out of his chest.

Mixed martial arts fighter Jarrod Wyatt, 26, was reportedly under the influence of psychedelic drugs when witnesses said he and his sparring partner, Taylor Powell, became preoccupied with the notion that the end of the world was near and that there would be a final struggle between God and the devil, the Times-Standard reports.

Del Norte County Police Sgt. Elwood Lee, who responded to the incident early March 21, said that Wyatt told him at the scene that he saw the devil in Powell's face and that "'Satan was in that dude.'" He allegedly cut an 18-inch hole in Powell's chest, removed his heart, cut his tongue off and removed a majority of Powell's face.

Lee also said that Wyatt admitted he had cooked the body parts in a wood stove at the Klamath residence because he thought that Powell was still alive and that he needed to "stop the devil."

"At one point," Lee said in court, "[Wyatt] asked if we were God, or if we were God coming to save him."

Detective Ed Fleshman, who testified that he spoke with Wyatt in a holding cell later that morning, said that Wyatt told him that he, Powell and two other friends had drunk hallucinogenic mushroom tea prior to the incident.

When one friend, Justin Davis, tried to leave the scene, Wyatt reportedly tried to stop him, saying that a tidal wave was coming. Davis left to go to nearby Crescent City but returned later to get his dog, when he saw a struggle ensuing in the living room and proceeded to call 911.

Wyatt's ex-girlfriend, Billy Jo Bailey, was also at the scene and said that she noticed a change in Powell's behavior after drinking the tea. Powell reportedly told Wyatt "You wanna f---ing die" three times before the two started to fight.

In addition to counts of aggravated mayhem and torture, Wyatt faces a first-degree murder charge in the incident. Whether the murder charge will stand, however, depends on premeditation -- whether Wyatt acted with "malice aforethought."

James Fallman, Wyatt's defense attorney, argued that Wyatt was having a psychotic break and therefore had no control over his actions.

"My client was trying to silence the devil," Fallman said.

However, prosecutors argue that the act of removing Powell's heart, tongue and face took enough time to prove evidence of intent.

Now that the ice has been broken from my last installment in ‘’Stories By Scotty’ I’ve been doing a lot of thinking. Besides trying to recover from the recent Juno Awards that just went down this past weekend in St John’s, I’ve been trying to break it down in my mind as to which story I’m going to share with you for this installation.
So after about a week and a half of that, I woke up the other morning and all I had on my mind was the fact that today is 4:20. For those of you who don’t know what 420 means exactly, which is highly unlikely for any viewer on this site, it symbolizes a national day where the use of weed is more expectable in Canadian cannabis culture and in many other places around the world on April 20th every year Since I myself take part in this phenomena like its New Years, I’m gonna tell you a story about marijuana that was one of my many near death experiences! It didn’t exactly happen on the date of four twenty but since there was so much weed involved, its definiately more than approiate to share this story with you.
I think it was the early August, summer of 2001 or 2002. I’m not really sure cause we were high all day, everyday! Although I m not sure what the year was, I know it was early August because to all the bys and me from my hometown on the west coast of the Island, it meant that we were nearing the date of the yearly provincial skateboard contest held in central Newfoundland. This was like the Slam City Jam of skateboard contests for Newfoundland!
The town where the contest was held, managed to throw it together every year by taking all the sogged and weathered ramps from their local outdoor skatepark and transported them to a small rundown stadium, and to us, that was the best setup for skateboarding weed every seen in our lives. All the skaters from the West Coast and East Coast of NL would meet up to get on the biggest party of the year, and a try to fit a contest in the mix!
Although there was a bit of rivalry between the east and west, we all had the maddest respect for our scenes and showing up to the contest was much appreciated by everyone who came to skate or just get on a blackout.
On the summer in question, it was particularly hard to travel the skate competition because none of us had a visa, which met that we were too young to rent a car, and none of our parents could provide a ride for us because they knew the mayhem that took place on every other year.
It was getting near the competition date and the options were getting slim, so hitching hiking was one of the only solutions, but since there were 8 skaters from my hometown signed up for the contest, it was highly unlikely that we would all hook a ride on the highway!
At the last minute we heard word that some random crack skeet burnout, who didn’t skate himself but thought skateboarding was Rad, was willing to give all eight of us a burn to central. None of us had a clue what we were getting ourselves into but we still all had hopes that this would be our ticket.
We met up at the skatepark in my hometown on the morning before the contest, with our skates, our book bags with a change of clothes, and of course, our personal stashes! As we waited for our mystery driver to show up we all began rolling joint, after joint, after joint, and played games of ‘Bellhead’, which is also known as ‘games of skate’ to the rest of the world, to practice and pass the time.
After about an hour of just getting completely chonged, our ride showed up. What we ended up with for the 4-hour drive to the contest was not a car that fit five people, not a mini van that fit 7 people and it sure as hell was not a tour bus to accommodate all 8 of the excited skateboarders. Instead what we saw roll up was a Mazda B1200 truck with a standard transmission, which was the smallest truck Mazda made at the time and comfortably fit two. To add to the sketchiness of our transportation, the driver was an absolute flock of seagulls. When I say this, I mean this guy was like a character straight out of ‘Fear and Loathing Las Vegas’ or Spun’ but to us this was as good as a private jet with a chartered pilot cause there was no way we weren’t gonna show at the competition.
With that being said, we all piled in our fresh tour whip. The setup consisted of 5 people sitting in the pan of the truck with the entire luggage and the skateboards, and the front of the vehicle had the driver and two passengers jammed in. This didn’t matter as long as there was room for us to roll joints
We left the skatepark at approximately 1 o’clock pm and the captain of our trip proceeded to nearly get into two accidents before even leaving town! It was at this point that I knew that there was a high probability that we were either going die or at least get injured badly on this road trip.
As we headed on our way to the contest across the winedy and bumpy Newfoundland portion of the Trans Canada Highway, all hands were having the time of our lives rolling huge bats and just talking about the madness that went down on trips from the past, and of course, what was to come on this trip.
Anyways long story short, after about an OZ of weed, numerous stops to stretch out our cramped legs, some sand jumping, a few short cuts through dirt roads by our cleaver vehicle operator, and a few dead ends, we made the 4hour drive to Central Newfoundland in a speedy 10 hours.
We rolled into our hotel, late and the party had already begun with the St. John’s skate crew already there and checked in. When I say this I mean there were topless girls with just DC shoe stickers covering their nipples, there were dudes funneling beer threw lawn flamingos, and of course, there were 8 of us, HIGH as fuck and not knowing how to take it all.
As the night continued to progress, and the contest, which was the very next morning, was getting closer, the party just got more and more out of hand. Since the whole crew I rolled out with was so blitzed when we reached our hotel destination, we were getting wasted but we were still the most behaved ones that night. This was not usually the case though, because we were notorious for getting kicked out of hotel rooms every contest prior and having to sleep in cars in the parking lot, but our good behavior this year in particular got us in the good books with the hotel security.
The next morning everyone woke up to a mean hangover, which meant everyone was dreading going to do two contest runs, or maybe even three if you made the finals, but we still all dragged our sorry asses to the stadium.
After many blunts, a few beers and two or three contests runs it was back to the hotel to continue the party! This meant a joint rolling contest and many hot boxes in the bathroom under that red light you can turn on in certain hotels. Soon after that, the tubs were filled with ice and lined with beers, and all kinds of liquor and the party was well under way again.
Knowing that this was the last night of the competition for all the skaters to hang and try to hook up with some of the local talent, we all hit the party Very Very hard. Since me and the bys had been considered to have conducted ourselves proper the night before the contest, we had immunity from getting kicked out of the hotel by the security guards, which meant the party was in our rooms and the it wasn’t stopping til’ well after 6 in the morn!
So after having to kick everybody out that wasn’t staying with us, we all got about an hour of sleep just to sober up and make it home with the hope of avoiding death on the highway.
After waking up our very responsible and devoted driver and smoking a huge joint with him, we all packed in the truck. Once we were in the truck, the setting arrangement was the exact same as it was on the 10-hour drive to the contest: 5 in the back and 3 in the front.
Back on the road home, it was now time to smoke mad weed. As soon as we hit the highway, the blunts got blazed. Since we were all so messed up from the night before and not quite so refreshed from that hour nap we tried to have, the ride home was just a complete gong show.
Every 20 minutes or so, our truck would swerve across the road into the oncoming traffic and then swerve back into our lane. To say that we were all scared for our lives was an understatement but we all knew what we signed up for when our ride picked us up two days before so we just went with it.
To this day I will never forget what happened next. We were about half way home, and we were long overdue for an accident. With that being said I looked at all the bys’ in the pan of the Mazda 1200 and said, ‘Bys I think we re about to go off the road in second’ and sure enough we went up on two wheels and shot across the highway with all of us hanging on for dear life in the back.
Since I was in the back of the truck, me and the four other bys in the back couldn’t see anything but everyone just looked at each other and embraced what was about to happen. Nobody said a fuckin’ word until one of the bys in the back started screaming! All he could say as we shot off the 10 foot drop into the ditch was ‘Oh fuck, we’re fucked, Oh fuck were Fucked’! We all knew at that moment that we could possibly die or get extremely injured.
Lucky, the truck managed to go back down on four wheels before we shot off the highway on an angle that allowed us not flip and get crushed.
After that I remember coming to with the truck slammed head on into a tree and there was smoke bailing out the cab like you would expect to see from this pot vehicle of party death.
When we all realized we were still all alive and nobody had a fuckin bruise, we began laughing hysterically. No joke, we were laughing like it was the first time we all saw ‘Eddie Murphy Delirious’ or we had just watched Newfoundland comedians ‘Buddy Was His Name and the Other Fellas’ perform.
Shortly after the cops showed up and unless they were born among coyotes, knew we were high as kites. Even though none of us really knew exactly why we went up on two wheels, we all gave statements to the cops, as a ford 150 with a winch on the front pulled our truck onto the shoulder of the highway.
After a short meeting among our group we later came to realize later that the reason for our little accident was not totally due to the fact that the driver was a state before we even left but it was because the Captain of our trip insisted on rolling every joint he smoked, even though the other two passengers in the cab with him were perfectly capable. I guess it was focusing on the perfect roll and stirring the truck with his knee that was a key contributing factor in our near death experience.
Once the truck detacted from the tree and the statements where given we asked the officers if it was cool if we could still hop in the truck and drive home if it was still mobile. I will never know how the truck started or why the cops said it was cool for us to drive if it worked but we all jumped in the back of the truck, rolled a few blunts and headed home with a great story.

Ever see your dad, the biggest role model in a young boys life, blow up a beaver with a homemade bomb because it ate the birch tree in front of your house? Probably not but with that being said I’m pretty sure anyone who just read the first sentence to this new post on this Self enlightening and eye opening website is definitely thinkin’ who in the SWEET fuck is this guy posting shit on the Knifefighter.com, why is this post called Installation Zero and where’s my next fix! So, just give me a minute to explain myself and I’ll see if I can answer these questions regarding ‘Installment zero!’
First off, my name is Scotty, as you might have figured out from the title, and I’m from the Island portion of Newfoundland and Labrador. Its kinda crazy how I got involved with this groundbreaking website/blog being from small town in the wilderness next to a brook and a few mountains filled with beavers, moose, squirrels, coyotes and the endangered Pine Martin! So to get to he point, I meet the creator of ‘Knifefighter’, the blog with such hit posts as, Laser Tits’, ‘Call the Ambalmpse’, and of course, ‘Two Very Sick Human Beings, a few years back when I was working in the Skate and Snowboard Industry, as a manager/buyer of a local shop. Our relationship was very business and professional during that time until it came to an abrupt end when I left the shop, due to the fact that myself and the owner despised each other, I had ‘Relations’ with most of the female staff and there was SUSPICIONS’ that I was selling receiving and distributing illegal substances out of the shop. After my departure from the ‘Hemp’ wholesaler, I mean local skate shop, I had the opportunity to meet my distributor friend outside of a work environment, which, if you know the creator of this website and the Newfie stereotype, started with a case of beer, then quickly led to a few dozen shots and a couple mugs of cheap champagne, which, ended in a solid blackout!
Anyways in between the black areas there were a couple grey areas in our meeting in which we did manage to get a couple of less then ideal average citizen stories out there and before I knew it, I was offered to share some of these stories with the Knifefighter/ Swallow my Kids’ regulars and new readers!

So now that you know I’m one of the by’s from Newfoundland, Land of the frequent blackout, I’m just gonna quickly explain why I called this first story Installation Zero! I guess the title kinda goes back to my roots in small town Newfoundland and having fuck all to do! Basically we had fun doin’ shit like play 21’s on the most rural basketball nets, where you had to break the ice before you could start sinking baskets from the stick laid on the ground about 10 feet from the basket to creating some points in the game. Basically, this is an icebreaker to what I’m about to share with you.
With all that said I m gonna share stuff with you like the story of when I lost my virginity, The ‘SPECIAL CLASS’ in my Elementary school, my INSANELY crazy ex-girlfriends, the time my hippie Grand Father left hooked a customer at his store and many, many more stories that are just fucked.! I’ll try to keep it updated weekly if I’m not too hungover or just too busy living Installments of ‘Stories By Scotty!’ Anyways I hope you enjoy whatever I write or post and if not Fuck it cause I enjoyed livin’ em’!
